A great site for the fashion addicted!
Some years ago I worked as a seamstress for a small dry cleaning establishment. I sewed during the day at home, while my little babies slept. I took in hems, let out waists, did the typical motions any garden variety seamstress does. I wanted to rip the clothes I took in, wanted to add sequins, darts, asymetrical lapels, anything and everything high fashion, unique.
I learned to watch the tabloids, learn to copy Madonna's lingerie look, learned to study Versace's feminine grace, learned to switch it, cut it, knot it, make it my own. Ever since those days I've made my own clothes. I usually start with something purchased at my local Salvation Army. You can't beat a skirt for a buck! I rip the seams, add my own detail and style, and grin when my Avon customers ask me where I got the cool designer dress.
A week ago I followed a link to a new site called ShopStyle. Heaven! ShopStyle has collected all the latest looks from a huge number of designers and stores - from the haute couture to the most basic Old Navy-esque - and lets you click on pieces you like and add them to your own personal stylebook. Of course, you can buy the clothes if you like. Many of the items are extremely reasonable. But I like to mix and match, figure out what creation I will build online, then build at home with my Singer, pins, measuring tape, and good eye.
You can visit my fun stylebook and see what I'll be wearing down my street in the coming weeks, once I raid the Salvation Army and reconstruct to make my very own. Here's one of my new looks. I already have the cowboy boots and a cute bag. I'm going to make a dress like this first:
I have only one request for the ShopStyle folks. Please add the ability to add your personal website or blog to your profile. It would be fun to get to know some of the other stylists offsite as well as through their ShopStyle looks!
Check out ShopStyle - you'll be glad you did! It's damn addictive! (And nope, I am getting nada for writing this review. I just really love ShopStyle!)
