Avon Customer Review of the Avon Anew Clinical 2-Step Facial Peel

"My Face Didn't Fall Off..." ...either time! 43635

Guest Reviewer, Carroll, checking in again to chat about my experience with Avon Anew Clinical 2-Step Facial Peel.

For the benefit of any new readers, as previously mentioned, I am not, in anyone's wildest imagination, a "salon products" kind of gal.  But, when Birdie gifted me with a whole host of Avon products a while back, I felt compelled, by both curiosity and friendship, to give them all the old college try (where did that phrase come from, anyway?)

Now "peeling my face" has certainly never been an experience I felt was missing in my life, but since said face certainly has considerable room for improvement, I figured, why not. The first time I tried it, I must admit to being more than a little anxious. What if, never having been previously peeled, my face reacted with less than enthusiasm for the process?  But, figuring that years of research by hard-working Avon chemists would not likely lead to complete disaster, I screwed up my courage, bravely swiped all the moisture from Pad #1 across my face, waited the required five minutes, and swiped again with Pad #2. With nothing better to do but worry nervously during the 5 minute wait, I put my reading glasses back on and examined Pad #1. Hmm...odd...it appeared to be, well, "grimy".

Reading back through the directions, I discovered that I might possibly have overlooked the one indicating that this process should be initiated with a completely clean face.  But, since I don't wear make-up, and generally don't sleep with the dog, how dirty could my face possibly be first thing in the morning? Hmmm. Scrutiny of Pad #2 revealed a soberingly similar level of "grime".

Must be more careful to cleanse thoroughly next time, I mentally noted to myself, and went on about my business for 48 hours. My next experiment with the process took place immediately after a shower.  Clean face for *sure* this time, I thought. But no...both pads still came away "grimy". Ackkk! I must be a really filthy-faced person! Hmmm <--(indicative of interlude in which considerable pondering took place) Ahhh, I get it.  That's the stuff that's getting "peeled"! Dead skin cells, and I don't want to know what all else.  Good riddance!  I should have been doing this a lot sooner than this. Who knows how much of a "Dreadful Build-Up" my aged-face must have accumulated by now!

So, religiously, every two days for over a month, I cleaned and peeled, cleaned and peeled.  Never a tingle to indicate anything untoward might be happening.  Never a rash or reddening that might cause alarm.  Did my skin look better?  Well, no one stopped me on the street saying "gosh, your face looks great", but nether did passersby recoil in horror when they saw me coming. So far, so good.

But then one day, the inevitable happened.  Step One went as planned, but something came along to distract me, and before I knew it it was bedtime, and lo the next morning, there was Container Number 2 waiting in the place I put it so I wouldn't forget Step 2 the day before. Ackkkk!  My face, my face!!! Scurrying quickly to the mirror I was unutterably relieved to find that, in fact, it was still there -- seemingly intact. Phew! A quick swipe with Pad #2, and I was back on track (or so I thought). But alas...I came today to the end of Container #1.  Swiped the final pad. Waited the five minutes. And opened Container #2. What? How could this be?? There were *two* pads remaining in Container #2!!! Clearly, on some other careless occasion, I allowed my poor face to go un-neutralized (or whatever the heck it is that Pad #2 is supposed to do). And, y'know what?  It doesn't seem to have been fatal! Does my face look better? Not appreciably as far as I can tell. Does it feel better?  Well, it does feel good to know I'm ridding myself of all that invisible "grime", but I'm not at all sure it's convinced me to make that process a regular part of my (cough ) "beauty routine".

But, one thing I'll say.  For the first time in almost forever, my face feels really soft!  I like that, yes I do.  No telling when the love of my life is going to reach over, stroke my cheek, and say (for the first time in 37 years of wedded bliss) "Wow, your face feels really soft!"  For now, it's enough that I have that secret satisfaction all to myself.  I'll let you know when it becomes public knowledge ;)

...um, Carroll.. I hate to be the one to break it to ya, but, it's public knowledge now.. ;-)

My step-daughter started using the peel to help clear up her face. Being 16, she isn't the most religous in application. However when her face starts breaking out a bit more she uses the peel and in a couple of applications we can see a noticable difference.

Carroll, don't worry. Avon heard you about the possiblity of forgetting to apply Step 2. In a the next month or so, they will be introducing the new and improved 1-Step Peel which neutralizes on it's own. No more worries about your face peeling off in the middle of the night. :)

Oy, matt..you're right! What? I was supposed to realize that confiding my special secret to Birdie's readers is like blabbing to the whole entire internet??!

And, Cary -- that's cool! Maybe I should add "Avant-garde product tester" to my qualifications as Birdie's Avon Pimp ;-)

I LOVE honest product reviews...and this rates at the top. Lots of humor. Carroll should be hired to do this professionally.
